Etch Soapstone Vessel
This Etch Soapstone Vessel is a collaboration between Citta and Asili Design. The vessel is designed in our New Zealand studio by product designer Nikolai Sorensen. It’s then skillfully hand-carved in Kenya by Asili.
The design celebrates the handmade nature of the manufacturing process. Each piece is intentionally irregular with etched grooves that provide a more structured element. The two design features are combined to give the vessel a topographical feel.
Carved from raw pink soapstone using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations. Produced within a fairtrade environment that supports the artisans, their families and communities in Western Kenya.

Wipe clean using warm damp cloth. Avoid leaving liquids sitting on the surface as this can stain the product. Saopstone is a natural material, variations between products may occur.

<p>This Asili Soapstone Vessel is skilfully hand-carved using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations. Each piece is whittled back from large chunks of soapstone from family owned quarries in Western Kenya. The carvers work with no more than hand tools to create a smooth finish, celebrating the unique diffusion of blush and natural hues throughout the material. This mindful process filters traditional techniques and natural materials through a contemporary lens to create a modern artefact - something timeless yet new, ready to be cherished in your home.<p/><p>Asili soapstone pieces are produced within a fairtrade environment which supports the artisans, their families and communities in Western Kenya and offers the design community an assurance of integrity.<p/>
