Akari 1A Table Lamp
The Akari A1 lamp is from Vitra—Switzerland’s famed design company. The sculptural lamp was designed by Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi in 1951.
As part of a cohesive series, the design takes inspiration from traditional Japanese paper lanterns used by local fishermen for night fishing. The modern interpretation is characterised by weightless luminosity with the paper shade transforming the harshness of artificial light into a soft warmth.
Each lamp is expertly handcrafted by Japanese artisans in an Ozeki workshop. In this meticulous process, bamboo ribbing is stretched across the original wooden forms designed by Noguchi.
